After developing a deeper understanding of Baukultur roots in the different European countries, the second Seminar Series is dedicated to “themes” and “periods” that have characterised the Swiss practice and debate.
In Switzerland’s rich regional diversity, distinct Baukultur traditions emerged. These both absorbed influences from outside and, in turn, had an impact on the wider world. Roger Diener presents the cultural foundations of the city of Basel, which in the second half of the 20th century enabled the emergence of its own urban Baukultur, while Gion A. Caminada reports from Graubünden, where at the same time a very different new tradition emerged, characterized by a rediscovery of the genius loci strong local roots.
